Hey all! I hope everyone is having a fun filled and safe summer so far. Speaking of safety, I wanted to share a FANTASTIC resource with you. It comes from Devos Children's Hospital, a premier facility in the West Michigan area with over forty pediatric specialties. It is a fantastic organization!
Well, they have published a booklet called Childhood Injuries and Illnesses that is chocked full of helpful information. I received a copy a while back at an in-service and was amazed at how comprehensive it is. It gives a brief synopsis of every childhood illness or injury (e.g., symptoms, etc,) you might experience as a parent.
For example, did you know that kids become overheated or dehydrated more quickly than adults? Here are some things to watch for:
- dry or sticky mouth
- few or no tears when crying
- not having the urge to urinate for more than eight ours
- signs of cramping
- feeling fatigued
- severe headaches
- nausea or vomiting
The booklet also shares tips on what you can do to help, when to call the doctor, what to watch for, etc. It also provides helpful safety information such as wearing bike helmets, car seat safety, and the like. I keep a copy in my car and in the kitchen. It is small, light weight and would fit easily in a diaper bag or purse. In addition to being a great resource for parents, it would be a great thing to give a teen who has just started babysitting.
And can you believe it is FREE! All you have to do is click here to request your copy. Here's to a continued safe and happy summer to all!
